SAUTI ZA BOMA PROGRAM EMPOWERS THEATRE PRACTITIONERS WITH AUDIOPLAY SKILLS

The Kenya Cultural Centre, in collaboration with the Kenya National Theatre and The Kenya International Theatre Festival Trust (KITFest Trust), recently concluded a week-long capacity-building program, Sauti Za Boma, aimed at enhancing the skills of theatre practitioners in the growing field of audioplay production.

Sauti Za Boma focuses on equipping participants with technical and creative skills to create compelling and sound-based storytelling experiences. The program’s broader vision is to nurture a new generation of Kenyan theatre artists who can produce high-quality, original audioplays that reflect the country’s diverse narratives.

Held from 10th to 18th May at the Nakuru Social Town Hall, the training brought together 12 participants from Nakuru county. The intensive workshop covered various aspects of audioplay creation, from conceptualization and scripting to sound design and installation.

Through Sauti Za Boma, Kenya is carving a space for audioplay productions on both national and international stages, affirming the country’s commitment to storytelling innovation and artistic excellence.

With five more training centres to go, Sauti Za Boma continues to roll out across the country. The next training centre is in Kiambu County. The training will take place at the Nairobi Institute of Music and Performing Arts (NIMPA), located along Thika Road.
